Going to see a doctor about perimenopausal symptoms as a Fat person is scary because there's a good chance you'll be confronted with a combination of medical weight stigma and medical misogyny. Not a great combination!
And yet everybody with ovaries goes through menopause. Which means it affects 50% of the global population, and yet there is very little research available. No surprises there. During perimenopause, hormones fluctuate, periods become irregular and you can develop a whole range of symptoms.
They include hot flashes, night sweats, fatigue, muscle and joint pain, vulvovaginal soreness/dryness, urinary symptoms, low mood, irritability, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, tearfulness, numbness and tingling, headaches, palpitations... There are more but you get the picture, right?
These symptoms make it hard for you to get a good night's sleep, go to work or have a decent social life. They interfere with your mental and sexual health. Yet you are expected to carry on as normal. And whilst there are a number of treatments out there, Fat people are often advised to lose weight first to "see if it helps".
Why? There's no evidence to support this!
In this masterclass, you'll learn why menopause has nothing to do with body size, and how to manage your symptoms in a weight-neutral way.
